Birds Fly Low, the new album from Creature With The Atom Brain gets it’s groove on
Originally conceived as a side project of Millionaire, Aldo Struyf has convened a crack team of cohorts and realised that mixing Queens of the Stone Age’s lighter moments with the rhythm and groove of John Lee Hooker makes for one almighty smooth mix.
Opening track Hit The Sky sets the stall out nicely with drawled vocals set amongst a repetitive, but not tiresome, and heavy stoner rock riff.
The highlight of the album is Black Rider Run, which features Mark Lanegan of The Screaming Trees and QOTSA fame.
One element that pervades throughout the whole of The Birds Fly Low is the use of guitar licks on every song. The great thing about them is that they are not boring, nor the same. Great creativity and inventiveness indeed.
An exceedingly strong album full of brain-burrowing tracks that will make the step-up from iPod to iPhone.
The Birds Fly Low is released on Jezus Factory records today.
