With each passing song, Limerick’s Slow Riot show a development and increase in confidence that is becoming frightening. Frightening if you are a contemporary. Christ, if I were mates of these and in a band of my own I’d be starting to wonder why I bother.
Pink December is their latest single and it’s as expansive as they’ve been – yet.
Ethereal guitars swirl around tribalistic drums, drums which keep the song moving together with a repetitive bass. Taken all together you have a dark track.
Comparisons with The Cure will abound, I’m sure. Some will probably accuse them of being rip-offs. But they aren’t. They make the dark post-punk sound their own. Taken in turn from beginning to now Slow Riot make no bones about their influences; but what they do is shape them into relevance for today. Lyrically, intrigue for the listener is their strength.
