20 years after the well-intentioned but ultimately clunky (and controversial at the time) S.Y.M.M., the Manic Street Preachers have returned to the subject of the Hillsborough Disaster with Liverpool Revisited, the final single before Resistance Is Futile drops on the 13th of April.
What may not be known amongst casual fans (if such fans of the Manics exist) is their association with the Hillsborough Justice Campaign, from appearing at the 1997 Rock The Kop benefit concert, appearing at various other benefit concerts, and being obliquely referenced in 2013’s 30 Year War, the final song from Rewind The Film.
The vilification of the 96 fans, their families and friends, and the lies the city of Liverpool has had to put up with until the recent inquest verdict of April 2016 is an apt subject to be broached again, culturally. Their triumph is one to be celebrated.
The track-by-track feature on YouTube about Liverpool Revisited can be watched below, which has James Dean Bradfield talking about Nicky Wire’s inspiration for the track.
