The Soft Moon – Him feat. Fish Narc

Multi-instrumentalist Luis Vasquez, aka The Soft Moon, has released Him featuring fish narc as the teaser singer for his upcoming new album Exister. As befitting an artist who has nailed his sound down pat, you know this is The Soft Moon, but as the song progresses you know that this time round there is something different about it.

Firstly is the collaborative nature; Vasquez has until now held the monopoly on vocals. Adding another voice, literally and figuratively, allows Vasquez to explore his inner demons from another perspective:

I struggle with ‘good side/bad side’ endlessly. ‘Him’ recounts that battle, expressing the turmoil it brings into my life

Secondly, Him has an if not more expansive sound, then certainly a less claustrophobic feel to it. Having left Berlin, his home of many years, Vasquez moved to Joshua Tree. This transposition from the urban to the rural allowed a fuller expression than he was previously able to take advantage of – such as being able to play the drums without annoying the neighbours.

In association with Exister, The Slow Moon is touring Europe and North America from September to December, dates below. Exister is currently slated to be released on 23 September via Sacred Bones Records and can be pre-ordered here.
